The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Communication Society awarded Professor Ted Rappaport the 2015 Edwin Howard Armstrong Achievement Award for his invaluable contribution and leadership in channel modeling and technology research fundamental to the next wireless generation, 5G. Dr. Rappaport is the David Lee/Ernst Weber Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NYU Tandon School of Engineering.

Also receiving praise is the publication, “Millimeter Wave Mobile Communications for 5G Cellular: It Will Work,” coauthored by Dr. Rappaport and his students, which won the 2015 IEEE Donald G Fink Prize Paper Award.

Dr. Rappaport founded the NYU WIRELESS center in 2012 to combine medical, computer, and wireless expertise. Since then, NYU WIRELESS has investigated 5G using millimeter wave frequencies to transmit data up to 1000 times faster than today’s transmission speed.
