Secure Integrated Sensing and Communications (ISAC)
NYU Wireless P.I.s
Research Overview
6G technology is positioned to provide a diverse range of services, including haptic telemedicine and VR/AR remote services, holographic teleportation with substantial eXtended reality (XR) capabilities, and Blockchain integration, among others. Integrated sensing and communications, an up-and-rising 6G feature is placed as one of six enablers of 6G technology. However, alongside future sensing and communication systems comes a myriad of security and privacy problems, such as the danger of leaking key sensing data, which must be addressed. We need to deal with security concerns as communication waveforms containing information are being utilized to detect targets.
Optimization approaches are required to create ISAC waveforms that can correctly beamform towards communication users while sensing potential eavesdroppers without giving revealing sensitive sensing and communication information to those eavesdroppers. This contributes to addressing the security/privacy problems raised by ISAC.
This research focuses on numerous critical aspects for the development of secure ISAC systems, including:
-
⁃ System modeling for secure ISAC systems, in different modes, such as half-duplex and full-duplex ISAC.
⁃ Power minimization and secrecy maximization considerations in such secure systems.
⁃ Extensive simulations to assess the performance of secure ISAC designs.
This project is expected to drive advancements in 6G technology by enhancing the integration of sensing and communication, while addressing security and privacy challenges associated with ISAC systems. Key focus areas include secure system modeling, power minimization, secrecy maximization, and performance analysis to develop robust and efficient ISAC solutions.
