Gbenga Ogedegbe, MD, MPH, FACP, is a Professor of Population Health and Medicine, Chief Division of Health & Behavior, and Director of the NYU Center for Healthful Behavior Change in the Department of Population Health as well as Vice Dean and Chief Medical Officer for the Global Institute of Public Health. After his residency training in internal medicine at Montefiore Medical Center, Dr. Ogedegbe completed his fellowship training in Health Services Research and Clinical Epidemiology at Weill Medical College of Cornell University and then received his MPH from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. Prior to his current position, he was a faculty member at both Cornell Weill Medical College and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. Dr. Ogedegbe is one of the leading experts on health disparities research; and the programmatic focus of his research is to define strategies to improve outcomes in the management of common chronic diseases. His work has focused specifically on the development, implementation and translation of evidence-based behavioral interventions targeted at cardiovascular risk reduction in minority and low-income populations. Dr. Ogedegbe has expanded his work globally, to reduce the burden of cardiovascular disease in Sub-Saharan Africa, where he is funded by the NIH to build research capacity in non-communicable diseases and implement task-shifting strategies to improve cardiovascular diseases in primary care practices in Ghana and Nigeria.

Dr. Ogedegbe is Principal Investigator on numerous NIH-funded projects including a recently funded Center for Stroke Disparities Solutions, and he has served on numerous NIH study sections. He has co-authored over 100 publications and his work has been recognized by receipt of several research and mentoring awards including the prestigious John M. Eisenberg Excellence in Mentorship Award from the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). He is a member of numerous scientific committees and expert panels of the National Institutes of Health including the former 8th Joint National Committee on the Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of Hypertension (JNC-8), which develops guidelines for the evaluation and treatment of hypertension. He is a Fellow of the American Heart Association, American Society of Hypertension, American College of Physicians and the Academy of Behavioral Medicine.
